Scrap Fabric Luggage Tags

Luggage Tags

Ever wondered what to do with all those little scraps of fabric? Turn them into luggage tags!

I got the first idea for these from a Pinterest pin (I don’t have the first site), but then I visited lots of commercially made as well as Etsy luggage tags to look for the features that called to me. I first wanted to do these because of the number of small scraps I’ve accumulated over the years making quilts. These need no more than a piece of fabric that measures 5.5″ X 11″.  The finished tag measures 2.5″ X 5″ with a 10″ strap (5″ doubled over).

I made my own pattern (which I’ll post as soon as I can) but the construction is all in the ironing!

  • I made a template of pellon and then ironed the fabric over it. These pieces were double the size of the tag, because it all gets folded in half.
  • I folded the strap piece into fourths tucked in, and stitched the edges.
  • I folded over the tag piece, tucking the strap into the end. As I turned the corner at the top, I placed my clear vinyl piece over the tag and stitched through all layers at once.
  • Cut a solid color of card stock 2 1/8″ X 3 1/2″ and slip under vinyl.
